GK Starting the attack - Key Words 

 

Counter - Can we counter?

 

Retain and Build (Play Around/Play Through) – Can we keep the ball and help build the attack? 

 

Combinations – Can you get back on the ball after your pass? (Support underneath)

 

Detail of pass (Aerially for Head or chest/Back Foot/Into Space/Safe Side) Think about the type of pass? 

 

Ball Speed – Think about your weight of pass?

 

Ball trajectory in the air - high or low pass? 

 

Tempo – Can you increase or decrease the Tempo of the game ?

 

Pro Active (Scanning/Positioning) -  Can you keep up with positional play and scan for opportunities? 

 

Positioning (Give Depth or Width) - Can you support with the right depth and width?

 

Disguise/Decoy - Can you disguise your pass to make it difficult for the opposition? 

 

Creative – Be Positive, can you be creative and find the spaces for the killer pass? 

 

Decisiveness – Can you make the right decision without hesitation? 

 

Transition (when we loss Possession) 

 

Pro Active Game Management (Check Numbers) Can you check your numbers before the 3rd line pass? Do we need to retain possession/ Are we winning/losing? 

 

3 D’s - Delay, Deny, Dictate. Can you deny the through ball? (front foot) Can you dictate to your teammates to stop the cross? 

 

Transition (when we Regain Possession)

 

Pro Active Game Management - Can you make the pitch big? Get your fullbacks high and wide. 

3 S’s – Secure [the ball], Scan[for counter or build options, Speed[control the game tempo] Can you remember the 3 S’s?

 

 

GK Key Words – Defending the goal

 

Force Wide - Can you organise the play to force wide? Encourage players to show outside/body shape 

 

Track/Pick Up Runners - Can you make your team mates aware of late runs/ runs on the blindside? 

 

Can you stop Crosses/Shots - Can you encourage and communicate the fullbacks to get tight to stop the cross? 

 

Positioning – (Defend the goal/ Defend the area/ Defend the Space) Can you defend all areas to deny the shot on goal? 

 

Front Foot/Set - How would you win the race in a 1v1? 

 

Compact - Can you organise players to tuck in and make it difficult for the opposition to play through? 

 

Step – Can you encourage teammates to step and progress up the pitch? 

 

[players name] Press – Can you demand the player in question (CB for example) to get tight to force a decision  

 

Be Brave - Can you put your body on the line to stop them scoring? 

 

Desire and Determination - Can you show desire to want to make that save/ stop that cross 

 

Decisiveness- Did you make that decision without hesitation?  Could you have made that decision earlier?
